Be Red Cross Ready
The American Red Cross is working with The Department of Homeland Security to help every person prepare for emergencies and make their communities safer. The Be Red Cross Ready message teaches three simple action steps the public can take to better prepare themselves, their families, and their communities for disasters and other emergencies.

Severe Weather
In times of floods, thunderstorms, or tornadoes, you and your family should have a plan and be prepared. Learn how to stay safe both at home and in the car. Get tips on what supplies are crucial to have on hand and the importance of being informed when severe weather hits our area.

Heat Waves
Heat waves are a common weather pattern in North Carolina. Heat kills by taxing the human body beyond its abilities. Learn the signs of a heat related illness, how to respond, and ways to effectively cope with extreme temperatures.

Hurricanes/Tornadoes
There are no other storms like hurricanes on earth. A hurricane can run a path across the entire length of the eastern seaboard. In recent years, the fatalities associated with these storms have been greatly reduced as a result of better warning and preparedness within communities. This session provides tips on how to protect and prepare for a hurricane in our region.

Although seasonal flu is common each year, scientist warn that a pandemic flu could potentially break out and quickly affect people in all parts of the world, causing serious illness and death. The healthy habits taught in this presentation can help prepare you and your family should a potential pandemic flu outbreak occur.

Through this fun and interactive game, participants learn about different types of disasters and how to prepare themselves and their families for when the unexpected happens. In this game, BINGO spells Preparedness.
