Deadly storms containing tornadoes hit many states last night, killing more than 170 people and destroying many homes. Among the worst hit were Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. This wave of storms comes on the heels of the tornado outbreak across the Southeast last week. Two dozen staff and volunteers from the Carolina Piedmont Region have deployed to the Raleigh, N.C., area to help with the tornado response from last week’s storms.
The local Red Cross in North Carolina is providing emergency assistance to multiple families this morning after last night’s storms caused power outages and damage across the region.
Three families in Caldwell County (13 people) and one Union County family have been displaced from their homes due to wind damage and fallen trees. Red Cross volunteers are working with the families to provide assistance for their disaster-caused needs. The Red Cross will be working across the region performing damage assessment to ensure those affected by last night’s storms will receive the emergency help they need.
