Red Cross volunteers were on the scene immediately to assist victims of the fire. Red Cross volunteers also provided drinks and snacks for the Charlotte Fire Department and other first responders on the scene of the fire.

Charlotte Fire Department firefighters rescued one family member from the building. The family was rushed to the hospital for emergency care. Captain Rob Brisley, spokesman for the Charlotte Fire Department, said the majority of the family’s pets perished in the fire.

The Red Cross will be working with the family to provide assistance for food, shelter, clothing and other immediate needs.
